Too many of our young people find themselves caught in life’s storms. As followers of a God who is a refuge and strength, we are called to walk with them In the Storm.

At Reset 2017 we’ll have training and faithful explorations around
-What young people today are facing
-How to better walk with them and their families in these storms
-How to build safer and more welcoming congregations for young people
-How to better care for ourselves

The Rev. Dr. Lawrence James Clark, II
Senior Pastor, St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church (Chicago, IL)

The Rev. Lawrence J. Clark is a spirit-filled man who is Unashamedly African American and Unapologetically Lutheran. He was born in San Francisco, California, and is married to the love of his life, the former Ms. Darlene Gibson, of New York, and they are the proud parents of four children: two daughters, Jessica & Mariah Clark, and two sons, Jeremiah & Isaiah Clark.

His great aunt, the late Silversteen Leonard, told his mother at an early age that he was a “marked child,” and he would grow-up to be someone special. He was baptized and confirmed on the same day in 1978. Although, he was a very shy young man, God saw fit to use him just like the prophet Jeremiah. Larry graduated from Lowell H.S., and went on to City College of San Francisco, San Francisco State University, where he graduated with a BA in United States History. He served as the Lay Campus Minister at San Francisco State University. He then followed God's call to attend the Trinity Lutheran Seminary (Columbus, OH) and the Lutheran Theological Center in Atlanta on the historic (ITC) Interdenominational Theological Center campus. In 1995, he graduated from Trinity Lutheran Seminary with a Master's of Divinity degree with an emphasis in Urban and Youth Ministry. He will graduate in May of 2017 with a Doctorate of Ministry degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta. His professional paper is entitled: An Invitation of A Lifetime: A Gift of Grace. He is the author of two articles: The Other Brother, and Partners in the Men of Color Bible by NIA Publishing. He worked on the Lutheran Course DVD series for Augsburg Fortress, Sundays & Seasons Lectionary prayers 2016 and 2017, Ideas for the Day 2018, is quoted in the Hill, Anderson and Martinson book Coming of Age, and has recorded live with the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago - LSTC Gospel Choir – “I’ve Got My Joy Back!”

He was ordained in 1995 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and in 2015 celebrated 20 years of Ordained Ministry. He has served as the Senior Pastor of Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church in (Chicago, IL), Vice Pastor of Mission of Christ and Windsor Park Lutheran Churches (Chicago, IL), St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church (Decatur, GA), and currently serves as the Senior Pastor, of the St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church (celebrating 110 years of Ministry) in Chicago, IL which is known as the “Can Do Church” with the “Will Do Pastor!” He is also currently serving as one of three volunteer Chaplain of the Chicago Fire Department. In addition, he was called to serve as the Associate to the Bishop, Metropolitan Chicago Synod, ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America), under the leadership of the Bishop(s) Kenneth Olsen and Paul Landahl. He served as the Executive Director of the Lutheran Theological Center in Atlanta, (LTCA), one of two ELCA Seminary extensions, which is housed on the historic Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC), and the larger (AU) Atlanta University Center.

God has truly blessed him with many gifts, and he has served the church and community in a variety of capacities, including: the Elder Abuse Taskforce, Advocate Trinity Hospital Governing Board and Advocate Board Planning Team, Trinity Lutheran Seminary Alumni Council, Wartburg Seminary Board, Luther Ranch Site Planning Team, ELCA Youth Ministry Network Board, Leadership Lab Staff and Chaplain, Co-Dean of the South Conference, African American Strategy Team, Convener Professional Leaders Conference, African Descent Lutheran Association Governing Board as Treasurer, Chaplain and Chairperson of the Daniel Payne and Rev. Michele Robinson Scholarship Funds, ELCA Revivalist Network, ELCA Coach and NCD Trainer, ELCA Commission for Multicultural Ministries, and many other. He is a dynamic preacher/teacher/revivalist and is known as one of those “singing pastor's.” He is a Child of the Most High God. Thanks be to God!
